Password Generator |
Platform: Linux (could probably be modified to run under the MacOS with MacPerl) |
Application Type: Perl Script |
Cost: PearWare |
Description: This is a very simple password generator, which can be configured
in any one of three ways:
- MODE 1: Run on the command line to generate a single password
when needed
- MODE 2: Run as a CGI to generate a single password when needed
- MODE 3: Run on the command line to read a file of usernames, and
create a new file with usernames and passwords, either comma-delimited
or in an HTML table.
This script is designed for and has been tested under Linux. (Our
testing machine is running Slackware Linux 96 with Perl 5 on
an Intel 386 CPU.) It can be easily modified to run on a Macintosh
with MacPerl as well. You will need a utility to convert a UNIX
text file to a Macintosh text file. (Sorry, we do not currently
offer such a utility.) Modes 1 and 3 have been tested under MacPerl
on a Power Macintosh and they run successfully. It could likely
be modified to run on a Windows machine as well, but we havent
tried it. |
Configuration: Configuration is relatively painless. If running on the command
line, install whereever you wish. If running as a CGI, place the
script in your cgi-bin directory. You will find a note inside
the script explaining what values you need to edit. Please be
sure to read the configuration section thoroughly, so that you
do not miss any important details. |
